Employment Outlook

The Chicago area is in need of professional personnel to staff the constantly expanding golf industry. In fact:

  • Chicagoland Golf magazine, in their headline of April 2000, indicated that "US opens a record 509 courses in 1999";
  • 1999 was the fifth consecutive year the US golf industry, opened more than 400 new courses;
  • Illinois has ranked 8th in the Nation with 720 courses as of December 31, 1999; and
  • Since 1986 the Chicago area market has opened 115 new courses and another 56 are in the works.

Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree

This is a two year Degree in Professional Golf Management. The degree consists of six classes in Professional Golf Management (18 credit hours) which includes two internships served onsite at a golfing establishment. Basically, this is a management degree with emphasis in golf management. This selection of courses prepares the graduate for employment. However, should the graduate wish to continue his/her education at a senior college or university, this is also a two year AAS degree in management. Please contact your intended college or university for specifics.

The AAS degree requires a total of 67 credit hours. However, considerations will be extended to individuals with unique golf and management experiences.

Who The Degree Is Designed For

The AAS is designed for three populations. The first, those who desire to gain skills and education to work in the golf industry. The second is for those who are already working in the golf industry and wish to increase both their golf experiences and management knowledge. The third is for those considering a career in golf as a member and player in the PGA of America.
