Hammers, nails, and wood. Cement, steel, and glass... the basic elements at any construction job. South Suburban College's Building Construction Technology program gives you the specific skills to put it all together.

What will I learn in class?
In South Suburban College's Building Construction Technology program, you'll learn the basics of construction and the management skills needed to supervise a project from beginning to end.

You'll receive valuable experience participating in our hands-on project: building a house in our large construction technology workshop.

You'll also work in the field, through a one-of-a-kind project building new energy efficent homes in the South Suburban College community. Participation in this unique project will give you a wide range of experience in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work. Best yet, you'll receive college credit.

Our Construction Technology program is continually updated to reflect current techniques, equipment and technology. Courses include Electrical and Mechanical techniques, cost estimating, project supervision and management, drafting, and methods in wood, masonry, and hands-on classes in carpentry, masonry plumbing, and electrical.

What is the employment outlook?
After completing South Suburban College's Building Construction Technology program, you'll find a full spectrum of career opportunities available in the fields of building construction.

It all adds up to an incredible amount of experience-that translates into highly regarded credentials when it's time to look for a job. However, if you're already employed in construction, our program will provide you with the knowledge it takes to get that promotion or raise.

Employment opportunities for Building Construction Technology graduates are excellent, with starting salaries ranging from $25,000 to $30,000 according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook.
