General Education Development & Adult Basic Education

General Education Development (GED)

Develop the skills required to pass the General Education Development exam. Adults who have not finished high school may take advantage of this program.

Adult Basic Education (ABE)

It is never too late to learn the basics. South Suburban College's Adult Basic Education program helps men and women whose skill levels are below the eighth grade level.

Note: A G.E.D. student (16-18 years of age) enrolling for the first time at a South Suburban College adult education center must have both documents listed below with them when registering:

  • State I.D. or Driver's License
  • Withdrawal form from the last high school attended

Illinois residents are also required to satisfactorily pass an examination on American patriotism and the principles of representative government as found in the American Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America, and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, as well as on the proper use and display of the American Flag. A Constitution Study Guide is available online.

Full time students can take advantage of free child care provided at the South Suburban College Child Development Center. Children must be at least 2-years old and potty-trained. The South Suburban College Adult Education program is an equal opportunity educator and employer.

GED Testing Dates

These are full battery tests that will be held in the Heritage Room Community Bank Conference Room located on the 1st floor of the Main Campus of South Suburban College, 15800 S. State St., South Holland, IL.
