Welcome to the English Department at South Suburban College. Our programs place emphasis on a wide range of topics relating to the English language, its usage, and the writing process. South Suburban College is proud to offer courses designed to give students the background that they need to go on to advanced degree institutions. Many of these courses are specifically designed for transfer, enabling students to complete their first two years of coursework leading towards a Bachelor's degree in virtually any field of study at a four year college or university.

If you are interested in a suggested English program curriculum for transfer to a four-year institution, please see the suggested English Transfer Curriculum.

Please Note: To ensure correct placement in the proper introductory English course, new students are required to take the COMPASS or ASSET test prior to registration. Also, our instructors utilize microcomputers to facilitate writing and it is highly recommended that students are proficient in keyboarding. Students lacking in basic skills should enroll in OAT 100.

For additional information, please email our Department Chair, Maggie Shear.
