
South Suburban College offers a
variety of choral and instrumental music performance organizations
which are open to all SSC students and community members. The
director of the organization should be consulted before initial
enrollment.
The Concert Choir is open to all SSC students. Each semester the Concert Choir presents a program of selections chosen from a repertoire that includes selected works from the 17th through 20th centuries. Music majors may enroll in this organization as a music elective.
The college and community singers who comprise the South Suburban Chorale meet on a weekly basis to rehearse and perform major choral works. These major works include oratiorios, cantatas, and masses and are often performed with orchestral accompaniment. Music majors whose applied area is voice, piano or guitar are required to enroll in this organization. Continuing education student membership is contingent on the ability to read music and previous choral music experiences.]

The South Suburban Chorale, one of the southland's fastest-growing choral ensembles, is announcing its concerts for the 1999 Spring semester. Join the chorale on Sunday, November 7 for a concert of sacred choral music to be performed at 1st Reformed Church, 15924 South PArk Avenue, South Holland, IL On Friday December 3, the chorale will join with the SSC Symphonic Band for a conert of seasonal holiday music in the SSC Kindig Performaing Arts Center. Under the direction of Fulbright Scholar Albert M. Jackson, the group seeks to combine informed performance practice with spontaneity and joi de vivre. South Suburban Chorale is offered as either a credit or non-credit course. |
Opera Workshop is scheduled during the summer term when students can devote themselves to the intensive study and rehearsal of an opera or operetta. Participants may work in solo, duet, and ensemble scenes in preparation for a public performance of the work studied. Consultation with the director is required before being admitted to Opera Workshop.
Small vocal and instrumental ensembles are open to students of brass, woodwinds, percussion and voice. With the cooperation and under the direction of a music faculty member, these ensembles are often created by available instrumental or vocal students.
Symphonic Band is open to experienced college and community instrumentalists interested in performing contemporary and traditional wind ensemble literature. The Symphonic Band performs at college concerts as well as community functions. Music majors whose applied area is woodwinds, brass and percussion are required to enroll this organization. Interested students and community members should consult with the band director.
The SSC Jazz Bands perform both on campus and throughout the South Suburban area. Commercial as well as director and student arrangements of popular, jazz and rock music are performed. Music majors may enroll in this organization as an elective. The bands are open to students and community members upon consultation with the band director.
