Marketing - Management: Fashion Merchandising Program

Overview

Every fall and spring, a seemingly endless parade of new fashions crop up in the marketplace providing retailers with ever-changing challenges for additional sales. If you're specifically interested in the vibrant, fast-paced clothing industry, South Suburban College offers an exciting Fashion Merchandising program to prepare you for a career filled with opportunities for advancement.

What will I learn in class?

Courses for the program include Fashion merchandising, direct marketing, sales and management, as well as courses in accounting, computers, business law, and economics. In addition, you'll focus on fashion history and design, evaluating fabrics, manufacturing and distribution sources, inventory control, visual fashion display, and the fundamentals of buying fashion goods for resale to the public.

You'll learn how to determine the demand for fashion products and services offered by a firm and its competitors and identify potential consumers.

You'll learn to develop pricing strategies with an eye toward maximizing a firm's share of the market and ultimately, its profits.

You'll learn to identify and monitor trends that indicate the need for new products and services and assist in product development efforts.

The Retailing option provides an opportunity for increased specialization.

What is the employment outlook?

Due to increasingly intense business competition in consumer products and services, employment opportunities in Marketing-Management are expected to continue growing. Salaries vary depending upon the level of responsibility and type of compensation program with possible commissions and bonuses.
