Medical Assistant Certificate

This CAAHEP approved certificate program provides training for students seeking to assist in patient-care management including both administrative and clinical duties. Medical Assistants can be employed in physician offices, clinics, dental offices, foundations, research institutes, prisons, the armed services, public health departments, Medicare agencies and HMOs. Upon completion of the program the student will be eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Certification or the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification. The program can only be taken on a full-time basis. Classes will be offered on the Main Campus of South Suburban College in South Holland.

Before receiving an application to the Medical Assistant Program the student must meet the specific admission requirements.

Admission to the college does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

Students are admitted to the program once a year

Minimum for Certificate: 37

[1] The externship requires that students must complete 160 unpaid hours of an externship at a site designated by the Program Coordinator. Transportation to and from the site will be the responsibility of the student. A criminal background check from a designated agent and/or a drug screen may be required to complete the externship course.
