The Scriblerian garners national recognition for SSC writers and artists

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL – South Suburban College's student literary art publication, The Scriblerian, was recently recognized with two national awards presented by the American Scholastic Press Association (ASPA). The 2009 publication of The Scriblerian received "First Place with Special Merit," as well as "Most Outstanding Community College Literary and Art Magazine" for the fourth time in six years.

The Scriblerian received 990 out of 1000 points in the community college division of this annual competition that judges works based on content coverage, organization, design, presentation, and creativity. This year marks the 28th anniversary of The Scriblerian. Rick Jones, an English instructor at SSC, has served as the faculty advisor to The Scriblerian for the past 18 years.

"My Scriblerian staff, my former editor Jena Ruzich, and I are quite proud of this recognition for our efforts to contribute to the literary and artistic community here at South Suburban College and have our students published in the magazine honored for their fine writing," said Jones. "I am proud of our students for their creative and imaginative works this year that have achieved our highest score ever."
