SOUTH HOLLAND, IL South Suburban College proudly announces Joe Greenfield, a right handed pitcher from the 2012 Bulldog Baseball Team, was selected in the 22nd round by the Boston Red Sox in the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft last week. Greenfield's record was 6-5 on the mound with 107 strikeouts, breaking the school record held by Tony Cingrani (Rice University; 3rd round pick of Cincinnati Reds in the 2011 Baseball Draft).
Greenfield helped the Bulldogs capture their 9th Regional Championship this spring. He attended Carl Sandburg High School and has accepted a baseball scholarship to Eastern Illinois University for the fall of 2012.
"Joe was a hard working player that feared no opponent and lived to be in pressure situations," said Head Coach Steve Ruzich. "Joe will excel at the next level because of his tremendous work ethic."
Greenfield is the 21st Bulldogs baseball player drafted under Coach Ruzich at SSC. He will also represent the 221st baseball student-athlete that has moved on to a four-year institution under Coach Ruzich's guidance.
